This article aims to analyze the youth experience in secondary school. More specifically, we explore the senses that young people give to the institution: the aspects they like, interactions with their peers and their expectations regarding the studies. In this sense the article join the line of studies on youth, school experience and processes of inequality. The research has been made in schools in three urban centers of Argentina where a survey and interviews with students and teachers were conducted as well as observations of classrooms and other school situations. The study highlights the correlation between urban and educational inequality and accounts for the persistence of expectations that imagine that the transit through the institution is useful for getting a job or pursue higher studies as well as structuring new time frames that emphasize other assessments on the senses of school.
