Abstract

This article describes a clinical-community intervention of five sessions (two collective and three individual) with people self-identified as sex and/or gender diverse masculinities carried out in Santiago, Chile. The intervention design was based on theoretical assumptions of M. Bakhtin and V. Vološinov dialogism and some particular perspectives of post-Freudian psychoanalysis. Participants explored their trajectories as people socialized as masculine who now self-identify as sex and/or gender diverse through body awareness work and creation of autobiographical visual materials. This material consisted of lists of autobiographical events associated with being male and perceiving oneself as a sex and/or gender diverse person. The autobiographical events were inserted into a so-called "graph of my sex-gender identity" which allows organizing, visualizing and evaluating those events. Finally, this chart was transformed into the "board of my sex-gender identity" where participants could walk, narrate and feel the autobiographical events. According to the participants and the facilitator, this instance allowed to (re)create disruptive and/or traumatic experiences from a safe distance. On the other hand, the corporal work made it possible to feel the unpleasant affects associated with these experiences without becoming too overwhelming. The succession of collective and individual meetings was experienced positively, since there was a supportive group experience, but also an individual space to express disruptive and/or traumatic experiences.
