This study addresses how psychotherapy and mental health is using the concept of masculinities, analyzing whether it is relevant to understanding psychological problems from sociological and feminist perspectives. In this qualitative-exploratory research, we interviewed ten Brazilian psychotherapists with approaches aligned with social constructionism. Transcribed online interviews enabled three thematic dimensions: masculinities; therapeutic strategies; and relationship with the epistemology of social constructionism. By studying the narratives to identify meanings and particularities of the clinical experience of these professionals, the analysis highlighted the diversity in the use and understanding of the concept of masculinities, highlighting the use of conversational resources and the approach to male demands in psychotherapy. It was possible to identify the importance of social constructionism in integrating macro-social and micro-relational aspects in the treatment of male issues in clinical contexts, despite the fact that conventional sociological and academic readings of the concept are not always used. The narratives suggest that using the concept of masculinities in psychotherapeutic practices can enrich more integrated and contextualized mental health and care offerings.Downloads
