Abstract

This qualitative and exploratory study describes imagined projections of transition from the university to the world of work of senior undergraduate students. Based on the analysis of 19 interviews to fourth- and fifth-year students of four professional programs of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, concerns, difficulties, facilitators and strategies projected in terms of future entry into the working sphere will be presented. Among the main findings is the fact that the anticipation of graduation may constitute a major concern for students; that this concern would depend on the relative position of the professional program in the labor market and the social position of the student in the social structure; and that the available discourses of transition to the world of work tend to over emphasize individual potential, eclipsing other related aspects.
