Abstract

This article seeks to determine which transnational spaces are being created and to measure the strength of these spaces. Two studies about Colombian and Ecuadorian transnational communities are analyzed. Four types of quantitative indicators used: those that measure organisational, interactions, levels of information and exchange of financial and consumer goods. Eight years ago, the migratory project  of Colombian and Ecuadorian communities in Spain was still uncertain: almost half of the immigrant community had doubts whether to return to their countries or remain in Spain. This is endorsed by the fact that, even then, their children were split up at that time, with half of them living in Spain and the other half living in their countries of origin. However, they had consolidated transnational spaces in which a very high level of interaction and links with their fellow countrymen and family members resident in Spain and abroad was observed.
