Abstract

This study addresses imperial violence as manifested in the spatial hologram of gender violence in heterosexual couples. The purpose was to understand, by means of qualitative methods, the significance attributed to a center for domestic violence and how it gets construed by women. Participants were women victims of gender violence who participate in a center for domestic violence in the region of Bío-Bío, Chile. The results show that the experiences of women in the construction and significance of the place can be characterized in three areas: emotional experience, relationship with others and the possibility of becoming empowered. We discuss the different symbolic contents attributed to space and networking sites associated with their experiences.
