Currently, multiple devices of community intervention articulate actions in the field of mental health. In this renovated field of practices, there is a need to critically review the theoretical frameworks that guide them and to add new theoretical contributions. The objective of this work is to advance a conceptual approach that would make it possible to include promotional practices of community mental health from a critical perspective that is open to complexity, as a contribution to community psychology by the health and mental health fields. Some fundamental concepts and ideas are developed and discussed, mainly using contributions by the Latin American Social Medicine/Collective Health movement. We propose to develop multiple and flexible intervention strategies that may strengthen community bonds and letting the community become an active entity in the process of social transformation, which is considered a key aspect of community mental health.Published
