The carried out work was guided to diagnose the burnout syndrome in the university academics of the fifth region of the country (Chile), as well as to identify the confrontation techniques more used by that community. A quantitative methodology was used with a rational descriptive perspective. The accepting population to paparticipate in the study reached 615 subjects of a population of 880, being finally 576 subjects the population producer of useful data. A socio-demographic motivational survey was administered to characterize the population and to determine those factors that can be associated to the syndrome, Maslach Burnout Inventory (M.B.I.) to determine the burnout presence - absence and the Carver Scale (C.O.P.E.) to identify the confrontation techniques more used by the university academics. On the other hand, the results of M.B.I. allowed to determine that 72% of the community doesn't present burnout, while within the remaining 28%, 16,1% presents a reduced level of burnout, 10,2% presents moderate burnout and only 1,5% is in the high levels of burnout. In relation to the results of C.O.P.E., the planning, the positive reinterpretation, the active confrontation and the search of social instrumental support were identified as the more used confrontation techniques. While the consumption of drugs, the negation and the behavioral disconnection figures among the fewer used techniques. Finally, it could settle down that people that suffered some burnout grade used with more frequency the negation like confrontation strategy to stress, differing of the subjects that didn't present the syndrome who were characterized to use the positive reinterpretation.Downloads
