Suicide is a global, complex and multifactorial public health problem, crossed by social issues, including gender issues, resulting in a greater recurrence among men. From theperspective of studies on the social construction of masculinities, this study aims to discuss and problematize the implications of gender in the occurrences of suicide among men in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is a documentary research that included 196 news, publishedbetween the years 2015 to 2020, in the Jornal Campo Grande News, which were subjected to descending hierarchical classification, similarity analysis and word cloud, with the help of the Iramuteq software. The results indicate that gender issues and the process of socialconstruction of masculinities play an important role in suicidal behavior, being related from motivations to the methods used by men. Furthermore, there is a relation between male suicides and access to firearms, as well as the occurrence of feminicide, requiring interventions that act on the social determinants of the phenomenon.Downloads
