Abstract

This scoping review centers on studies about the family impacts of child sexual abuse, according to their focus on parental figures or siblings as indirect victims, or on the family group as a whole. We selected a total of 29 articles published between 2011 and 2021, in mainstream journals indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. It is found that the tendency is to focus on individual or dyadic effects over impacts at the family level. This article highlights the development of studies with a systemic focus recognizing particular impacts shared by family members. From this, the understanding of sexual abuse impacts is broadened and relevant interventions can be based on the joint and differentiated needs of the various individuals affected.
