Beginning with classic theories concerning violence on the political field, we present in this article the results of a bibliographical analysis that aims to identify and categorize the actual development on the field of contemporary political violence. This review revised studies published between the years 2007 to 2016, on the format of articles on scientific journals, thesis, or books. The results are clustered around three big themes: state violence, political resistance violence and the effects that political violence has on the individual, groups, and societies. For each one of them, we present the sub-themes that address the scope of the consulted publications, indicating relevant contributions and identifying less studied aspects. Thanks to what we learn on this revision, we offer some keys to have in consideration at the moment of studying political violence, which aims to comprehend it as a socially constructed and historically situated category. We finish the study proposing the starting point for this line of investigations, exploring the possibility of analyzing contemporary political violence as dispositive on a foucaltian sense.Downloads
