Abstract

The current horizons of social transformation on a planetary scale and the crisis of centric-state political participation have impacted on the key notions of public space and the common. In this qualitative research we analyze the meanings in relation to public space and political action in the oral report of four autonomous social organizations of Valparaíso whose focus is the amplification and care of common spaces. The analysis of the contents and a subsequent interpretation from the ch'ixi -as an epistemological and methodological resource- reveals a notion of a contentious public space, characterized as a field of tactical openness in relation to the dominant politics for the deployment of autonomous policies of management, decision and common usufruct of the wealth available in the spaces, in a dynamic that overflow the capitalist and centric-state logic imposed about them. Finally, it is suggested to deepen studies to track the collective and autonomous capacities of the management of the spaces, assuming the critics to the eurocentrism and patriarchy, in order to understand the horizons of the desire and the practical potential of the community base organizations beyond of centric-state approaches.
